Have you heard of SATS?
We opened up volunteer driving offices in 2001 and became an AB non-profit society and a charity in January 2002. Our volunteer drivers assist low to middle income older seniors by providing transportation to attend medical appointments, physiotherapy, banks, get groceries or to visit family in hospitals or nursing homes all over the Edmonton region! We pick up elders inside their front door, walk elders into the appointment, wait and then take them home!

What kind of time commitment is necessary?
If a person can volunteer as little as 3 hours Monday to Sunday between 8-8, it would help us get one senior to an appointment!

I work from 8-5, Monday-Friday and this is when most volunteer rides are always needed! Is there any other way I can volunteer my time?
Yes, we need help on weekends for rides, help to assess elders, telephone answering and office support for administration and fundraising help! You could sell 50/50 tickets, help us by coming out to our Champions for SATS Meeting on April 26, 2011 or help us celebrate Grandparents Day on September 11, 2011, Walk with pledges in SATS Walker-a-thon in April every year, Volunteer at a Casino or become a S.A.T.S. Board Member.

Who can be a volunteer driver? No extra insurance is required!

  • Anyone who loves to drive and has a clean driving record and passes a security clearance by the Edmonton Police or the RCMP and a Drivers Abstract! We pay!
  • Professional drivers (bus, truck, ETS, EPS, EFD)
  • Students (over 18) or Teachers (who have the summer off)
  • Retirees or semi-retirees, Self-employed, Shift Workers/Flex time Workers
  • Anyone interested with the time......

Why would you volunteer to drive an elderly but walking senior?

  • You know someone who could benefit from this service now or in the future...
  • You will meet fun, knowledgeable people; elders, other volunteers...
  • You will know immediately that you did a good thing helping someone!

Click here to find out how you can volunteer.

Does S.A.T.S. reimburse the Volunteer Drivers gas money?
Yes; the seniors buy gas tickets @ $15.00 each from S.A.T.S. and one ticket is used for a one-way trip and any return trip under 2 hours back to the elder's place. Two gas tickets for a longer waiting or a far-away ride trip! The driver turns in a log of rides with the gas tickets and is reimbursed $10.00 per ticket.

Aside from cash or a cheque, what other kinds of gifts benefit?

      Visit CanadaHelps to donate today!
    • A credit card donation through CanadaHelps or Paypal is easy!
    • Do you buy gas? Husky/Mohawk will donate 2% of purchases with special card!
    • Or a gift through a Will or in a Memorial!
    • You can donate an unneeded vehicle through www.donatecar.ca to help S.A.T.S.!
